There are times when, no matter how good the paperwork, an owner hesitates. I can understand. The rental property you own may be your biggest investment in your future. I am willing to send you references, but if you want to know who I am, perhaps a little history about me will help.
My husband and I are naturalized Americans, both born in Cuba. I was raised by an American stepfather who taught me the importance of owning real estate. When my husband and I were college students and needed a cheap place to rent, someone offered to sell us their home at a bargain price. Before closing on the house, we found an apartment closer to work and school and cheaper than the house payment. We rented the house for more than the house payment, used it to offset the rent on the apartment, and another landlord was born. That was in Miami in 1974.
We moved to Orlando in 1980, struggled while we raised kids, and each time we moved we would rent the old house and purchase another one. (Some of those homes were initially in such bad shape only on owner would live in them! I would cry as I left my pretty home for the next "dump") Today we own over a dozen rental properties. We are not wealthy and it has not been easy, but we are big believers in working long and hard and always together as a family.
We have two daughters and have had countless exchange students from Argentina, France, England, and some from as far away as Russia and Azerbaijan (oil country in Middle East). I’ve been homeroom mother, Girl Scout leader, school newspaper editor, and served on the area school board. All this while working full time outside the home.
After servicing as Treasurer of the Central Florida Chapter of the National Association of Residential Property Managers for many years, I was elected its 2008 President. I regularly attend workshops, conventions, etc. to keep abreast of changes and coming trends in the landlord-tenant field.
What is my biggest asset? Probably that I own rental property too. I understand your fears and concerns better than others might.
